Lot 2087 2 CALIBER SIDELOCK DOUBLE RIFLE RETAILED BY ED
KETTNER WITH SCOPE. Cal. 11.2 X 60 (?) (43 Mauser ?)/22 Hornet. S# 62687. Probably actually made by J.P. Sauer the 25-1/8" barrels fitted with full length matted rib holding one standing, one folding leaf rear and gold bead front sights have retailer's name and address on tops. Barrels are fitted with Buehler scope bases. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with German nitro proofs and Sauer # 62687 along with Kettner # 1341 that also appears on watertable and trigger guard tang. Left barrel has been tubed to 22 Hornet with barrel flat marked "5.4/35". Coin finished sidelock action with clock hand cocking indicators also features non-automatic safety and double triggers (both set). Action is engraved with sprays of well cut scroll surrounded by line and scroll borders. Fences are nicely filed. Trigger guard engraved with scroll on bow has Kettner number on tang. Very nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate and features small shadow line right hand cheekpiece, elongated drop points and point pattern checkering on grip. A cartridge trap on toeline has space for four rounds. Newly made beavertail forend wood has fleur-de-lis checkering and deeply recessed original Deeley release. Rifle is fitted with Nikon Pro Staff 2-7X scope in engraved Buehler rings. CONDITION: fine as refurbished. Barrels retaining nearly all of a good re-black. Action cleaned to coin finish. Clock hands appear to be replaced. Buttstock retains nearly all of a glossy oil finish over marks that are both light and deep. Checkering is re-cut. Forend wood retains nearly all of its original finish. Hornet bore is very fine. Original 43 bore in right barrel is dark with strong rifling. Action is slightly loose; fairly tight with forend installed. Triggers will set. Scope is very fine close to "as new". PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6439/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
